How to Properly Clean Your Teeth with a Toothbrush?
A dental hygienist shows in a short instructional video how to properly use a toothbrush in every part of the oral cavity.
Watch a video with dental hygienist Kateřina Jurenková, who explains in detail how to clean your teeth in every part of the oral cavity. She will advise you on cleaning systems and other tips and tricks for healthy teeth. With proper cleaning, you will prevent cavities and your teeth will shine with health.
Basic Rules for Proper Cleaning
Clean your teeth at least twice a day — in the morning after breakfast and in the evening before bed — always for at least two minutes. Proceed systematically through segments (outer, inner, and chewing surfaces) so that no tooth is missed. Guide the toothbrush with gentle circular or scrubbing motions from the gum toward the crown — never horizontally back and forth, as this can wear away the enamel and injure the gums.
Which Toothbrush to Choose
Always choose soft bristles and a small head that reaches even the last molars. Both manual and electric toothbrushes can clean teeth equally well — if you use an electric one (sonic or oscillating), simply guide it slowly along the teeth; circular motions are not necessary. Replace your toothbrush every three months, or sooner if the bristles start to fray.
Most Common Mistakes
- Too much pressure — wears away enamel and recedes gums.
- Horizontal "sawing" of teeth instead of circular motions.
- Too short cleaning time (under two minutes).
- Hard toothbrush thinking it cleans better.
- Ignoring interdental spaces — the toothbrush cannot reach there; use interdental brushes or dental floss.
The toothbrush alone is not enough. For long-term healthy teeth, we recommend dental hygiene twice a year, where we professionally remove tartar and advise you on the technique specifically for your teeth.
