Dental Hygiene

How long does dental hygiene take?

The duration of treatment depends on the condition of your teeth and gums, but usually takes 30 to 90 minutes.

Dental hygiene is an important part of preventing dental diseases and maintaining a healthy smile. Many patients wonder when planning a visit how long the entire treatment actually takes and how much time they should allocate for it. The duration of treatment depends on the condition of your teeth and gums, but usually ranges between 30 to 90 minutes. For new patients coming for dental hygiene for the first time, or those with a larger amount of deposits, it is advisable to expect a longer visit.

What affects the duration of dental hygiene?

The amount of plaque and tartar is one of the main factors. If you have more deposits, especially below the gum line, the treatment will naturally take longer, as the hygienist needs more time to remove them thoroughly. The condition of the gums also plays an important role — inflammation, bleeding, or beginning periodontitis require a more careful and gentle approach, which takes more time. The technology used is also important — modern methods such as GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy) use special plaque staining, ultrasound and airflow with fine particles, making the treatment not only faster but also more comfortable and gentler on teeth and gums.

Visit frequency also has a major impact. Regular check-ups help significantly reduce treatment time, as deposits do not have time to build up as much between visits. For healthy patients without problems, we recommend coming for dental hygiene twice a year, approximately every six months. Some patients — for example those with periodontitis, a tendency to form tartar, fixed braces or dental implants — we recommend visiting once every 3 months. The investment of 30 to 90 minutes twice a year will pay off in the form of healthy teeth, a beautiful smile, and savings on more demanding procedures in the future.
