I have tooth decay

Tooth decay is one of the most common oral health problems affecting people of all ages.

Tooth decay, also known as caries, is caused by bacteria breaking down tooth enamel. If left untreated, it can lead to pain, infection and even tooth loss. The good news is that with proper and timely care, tooth decay can be cured and prevented from spreading further.

How do I know if I have tooth decay?

The symptoms of tooth decay can vary, but common signs include:

  • Pain or sensitivity in the teeth when consuming hot, cold, sweet or very acidic foods and drinks.
  • Visible holes or cracks in the teeth.
  • White, brown or black spots on any surface of the tooth.
  • Bad breath or an unpleasant taste in the mouth.

What to do if I have tooth decay

Do not delay visiting the dentist. The sooner you start treating the problem, the easier and less painful the treatment will be.
