Who is entitled to full reimbursement?
From 1 January 2022, orthodontic treatment will be fully covered by health insurance only for insured persons up to the age of 22.
When is reimbursement possible for older patients?
For insured persons over the age of 22, orthodontic care is only covered in cases of severe dental defects, such as:
- Cleft lip, jaw and palate.
- Congenital general defects.
- Systemic diseases with orthodontic manifestations.
- Multiple hypodontia (6 or more missing teeth in one jaw, excluding third molars).
In these cases, the costs of fixed orthodontic appliances, which were not previously covered even for this group of insured persons, are also covered.
What procedures are covered?
Orthodontic procedures such as diagnostic and documentation models are covered for insured persons up to 22 years of age. For older insured persons, these models are only covered in cases of severe dental defects.
How to apply for a contribution?
You can apply for a contribution in the following ways:
- Online via the Moje VZP app: the fastest way to submit an application.
- In person at a branch: just bring the required documents; you do not need to fill out an application.
- By post: send the necessary documents to the relevant branch.
What is required for the application?
- Proof of payment for the service (e.g. invoice).
- Doctor's confirmation of diagnosis (if necessary).
- Child's birth certificate (if the application is submitted by a legal guardian).
- Power of attorney (if the application is submitted by an authorised representative).
