Teeth Whitening

How to get rid of pigment spots on teeth?

Pigment stains on teeth affect both children and adults and can have various causes.

Pigment stains on teeth are a common aesthetic problem. They can be brown, yellow or even black in colour and arise for various reasons – from drinking coffee, tea and red wine, to smoking and poor oral hygiene. In children, pigment stains on teeth can also appear as a result of taking certain medications or due to bacterial deposits (black stains on teeth).

How to remove pigment spots

  • Dental hygiene – professional removal of surface pigmentation using ultrasound and sandblasting (air-flow) is the fastest and gentlest method.
  • Teeth whitening – helps to lighten teeth and even out their shade, but should only be performed after surface deposits have been removed.
  • Change of habits – limiting foods and drinks that stain teeth and consistent home hygiene (interdental brushes, proper cleaning technique).

Prevention of pigment spots in children

Regular check-ups with a dentist and dental hygienist are crucial for children. Black stains on children's teeth are often caused by specific bacteria – removal is quick and painless, but prevention is also important to prevent them from reappearing.

Tip from The Clinic: Pigment spots on teeth often return if their cause is not removed. That is why we always assess not only the condition of the teeth, but also possible sources of pigmentation during each visit.
