Tooth extraction is a procedure performed by a dental surgeon. When is it necessary to extract a tooth?
Tooth extraction is a procedure performed by a dental surgeon or oral surgeon.
When is it necessary to extract a tooth? We always try to save the tooth if it makes sense. However, if there is no other option, we perform the tooth extraction quickly and painlessly. At the same time, we apply the PRF method - we place a healing plug made from your own plasma into the wound to promote healing.
Reasons for tooth/wisdom tooth extraction
- Tooth decay: If the tooth or root of the tooth is extensively affected by decay and cannot be saved by a filling or endodontic treatment (root canal cleaning).
- Broken tooth: If the crown of the tooth breaks below the gum line or the root fractures.
- Lack of space: Most commonly with wisdom teeth that grow poorly or crowd other teeth.
- Extraction of a tooth with inflammation: If an infection causes a pocket under the root of the tooth. Such a focal infection can be dangerous for the heart and overall health. Early extraction will prevent acute pain and emergency treatment.
- Dental trauma: In cases of severe tooth injury (e.g. sports injury), extraction may be the only solution. We also offer immediate implantation so that you are not left without a tooth.
- Orthodontic reasons: An orthodontist may sometimes recommend tooth extraction to create space for teeth straightening.
- Unsuccessful dental treatment: E.g. when an instrument breaks in the canal, root perforation or after unsuccessful endodontic treatment. This often involves the extraction of dead or decayed teeth or the removal of the remaining root.
- Dental cysts and tumours: If a cyst or tumour is found, we extract the affected tooth and refer the patient to a specialised facility.
