The price of a dental implant is influenced by the type of implant and the brand. For example, Swiss Straumann or Thommen implants may be more expensive than other manufacturers; the largest manufacturer in the world is the Korean company Osstem. Today's implants are of high quality, and when properly inserted by a surgeon, the differences in quality are clinically insignificant.
The price of an implant is also influenced by additional procedures related to the current condition of your teeth and oral cavity.
What does the price of a dental implant consist of?
Diagnostics and planning
A precise examination is necessary before the procedure itself.
- 3D X-ray (CBCT): Essential for assessing bone density and nerve pathways. Without it, implantation is risky.
- Consultation and treatment plan: The doctor must design a procedure tailored to your anatomy.
Surgical part (what is "in the bone")
The brand and material of the implant (screw) itself play a key role here.
Implant brand: There are premium systems (e.g. Swiss Straumann) that have decades of clinical studies and lifetime guarantees, but they are more expensive. Then there are economical options that are cheaper but may have limited availability of replacement parts in the future.
- Complexity of the procedure: If you have insufficient bone in your jaw, augmentation (artificial bone replacement) or a sinus lift (jawbone displacement) may be necessary. These procedures increase the price.
Prosthetic part (what is "visible")
This includes everything that is placed on the healed implant.
- Abutment: The connecting piece between the screw and the crown. It can be standard or custom-made for the best gum aesthetics.
- Crown material: Zirconia or all-ceramic crowns look like real teeth and are the most durable, while metal-ceramic is a cheaper but less aesthetic option.
