In international comparison, Czechs belong among nations that care for their teeth relatively conscientiously. According to available surveys, approximately 70% of the population visits preventive dental check-ups twice a year, as experts recommend. Regular check-ups are covered by health insurance companies in the Czech Republic, which is a significant factor that makes preventive care accessible to practically everyone. Nevertheless, there are still reserves — particularly in the field of dental hygiene, which is regularly undergone by only one-fifth of adults.
Prevention as the foundation of healthy teeth
A regular preventive check-up with a dentist can detect cavities, gum inflammation, and other problems in their early stages, when treatment is simple, quick, and painless. Equally important, however, is professional dental hygiene, which removes tartar and plaque from places you cannot reach with a regular toothbrush. A combination of regular check-ups, dental hygiene, and quality home care can keep your teeth healthy and pain-free for life. It also saves considerable financial resources that would otherwise go towards expensive procedures such as root canals, crowns, or implants.
Cleaning technique
The basis of effective home cleaning is the correct technique. The most commonly recommended Bass technique involves placing the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums and making gentle circular or vibratory movements on each tooth surface. Cleaning should last at least two minutes and occur twice daily. Equally important is cleaning the interdental spaces, where up to 40% of cavities develop. Interdental brushes, dental floss, or special picks are used for this purpose. The dental hygienist will recommend the correct size of interdental brush individually based on the width of the gaps between your teeth.
